So for the first entry, I decided to review my favorite female singer's new album. On A Clear Night by Missy Higgins. If you don't know who Missy Higgins is, then it time to wake up and listen. Her music is mostly mellow soft and folk-y, and she plays the acoustic guitar and piano.
In my opinion, she has one of the best singing voices around (and btw, shes really beautiful too) . Not that she has a huge vocal range or can break glass singing, but she actually makes you feel her voice and what shes singing. I found her randomly on the web like most music I find, but her voice totally grabbed me and she's been on repeat on my ipod for a while now.
On a Clear Night came out in Australia in April 2007, and just finally came out in America in October. Steer was the first single, and one of the best tracks on the cd, but seriously, this is one cd where every song from beginning to end is good. My favorites are Secret, Sugarcane, and Forgive Me.
The last track Forgive Me, is my personal favorite. It's recorded live, and it almost sounds like she's in a bathroom playing her acoustic guitar, but theres this certain aura of authentic musicianship that comes out from that track. There is this line "Oh My God, how you make it hard, not to pick the apple, and Lord I long to give it back...". She has this certain vocal inflection at the end of that line, that you just can't replicate and is just so vocally and emotionally pure it gives me goosebumps.
And go pick up her first album The Sound of White too. Another amazing album.
